This is Korpilombolo, where my parents grew up. I got baptised in this church, it’s super cute. Wish it had been open, it’s very pretty, look here.

This lady parked her walking frame and took a rest for a while. She was not a relative, like so many in Korpilombolo are. The sun doesn’t get up around Christmas, so this is as bright as it gets for a little while during the day.

Elvis, mum and Thomas.

It was -25°C, Thomas went back inside and I contiuned walking, checking out parts of Korpilombolo with mum and Elvis. What did I wear? The same clothes as I wear in Berlin when it’s around 0°C. Mum was better equipped.

Many of my relatives live here. RIP.

Abandoned houses everywhere. I think this used to be a candy or pastry factory, if I remember correctly from the stories my mum told me as a kid.

Could you imagine living in such a remote place? I love to visit, but it would be too much for me. Well, maybe the opposite – too little.

It’s extremely beautiful in Winter though.

OK, this is great. Temp. bad means outdoor swimming pool.

Let’s go for a swim, mum!

Instead, we went inside my aunt’s house for amazing food, which I of course forgot to take a picture of. It was a classic Swedish Christmas smörgåsbord. And drinking glasses of vodka, as it is up there. Cheers!
