Gothenburg, Sweden

June 2008

June 18, 2018

Let’s go back 10 years in time, to 2008 when I was living in Gothenburg. Wearing my favourite long johns from the military shop and silver ballerinas. Had just bought my first 50mm lens.

Johan and I babysat Morran, Camilla’s dog.

This looks unreal, right?

We lived very close to the allotment garden in Kungsladugård, Gothenburg. I used to take strolls there with my camera, I did it often when I was sad. I was sad very often. About a year ago, I started feeling better than I ever did in my life. Things fell into place and I managed to start thinking in a completely different (better) way, managing to become the boss over my thoughts and emotions.

Gothenburg was beautiful, I wonder what it’s like now. Haven’t been back since we moved in January 2011.

One evening after the rain, we went to the supermarket. The light was out of this world.

All those coffees, never just one. How could we afford them? Ah yes, we didn’t have a health insurance to pay. Had we known about the German health insurance, we hadn’t moved to Berlin, it came as a shock and eats so much of our money.

Hello, friends! Bengt, Camilla & Morran.

Röda Sten was a place where we hung out A LOT.

Here we are in Örebro, where Johan comes from, hanging out with our friend Ola.

Went to a forest filled with abandoned buses.

Ola and Astor, Johan’s baby brother. He passed away a few years ago and earlier this year Johan’s parents got a new baby, Nestor, who I hope to meet soon.

There’s not much that beats being at Johan’s parents hanging out with them and eating my mother-in-law Maria’s amazing amazing AMAZING food.

Johan’s grandfather also cooks so well, here smoked fish.

We made a picnic by a lake and had schnaps.

We were so young!

One of my favourite pictures of these 4.

Back in Johan’s parents kitchen.

Hello, young Sandra! 29 years old. Do you see how off-center my pupils are?

Our tiny home.

Coffee coffee coffee. All the time.

Johan got these off-white velvet pants, which matched the kitchen very well. The year after, he wore them for our wedding day.

This is the sweetest post, Sandra. I have followed your blog for years and haven’t engaged much, but it brings me a lot of joy to read about your views of life, which in many ways are so different from my own in San Diego, CA (we drive everywhere, we are distant from tradition, etc.). Much love, Genna
