This morning:

January 30, 2013

This morning I met my friend Hanna for coffee early in the morning, the advantage of both working as freelancers πŸ™‚

Have decided to be pretty strict on weekdays which means no planned dates during daytime. Early morning is OK though, and spontaneous ones if I need a break. I get too distracted from work if I plan something in the middle of the day, and end up not working neither before nor after. How about you?

yes, that is exactly true. when i plan to work i always leave that day people or other activities free, so I can totally focus on what i'm doing specially because i never know am i going to start working early in the morning or later during the day.
so, have a nice working day today Sandra πŸ™‚

Ah, I miss Michelberger Hotel. I stayed there when I was in Berlin last year. And yes, totally the same with if I have something planned in the middle of the day (albeit just weekends as I have a fulltime job), I don't really get anything productive done before OR afterwards.

An morning coffee is a must especially with a friend1

I'm the same. If I have an appointment in the middle of the day, I'm useless the rest of the day. Early morning coffee sounds good. I never do that. And at least this way I'll get out of the house at one point of the day πŸ˜‰

same here..I always need a plan, otherwise the work stays undone and it makes unhappy afterwards. I think this is the most important if you don't have restricted working hours to stay organized and not sleeping until 12, walking the whole day in pygamas etc.. (even though it is soo temptimg =)).

I had to make a date today during the daytime when my neighbor told me some man will come to our house today to check the heating. At ten o'clock all of a sudden I knew that I could not stay in the office till eight but only until four.

And it was the most efficent day for month!

I'm the same. If I'm planning to see someone in the middle of a day I feel like before hand I'm distracted waiting for the meet up and after I never quite get back into work mode before it's time for bed.

Ahahaha….I feel the same way, but I end up forcing myself to try and work in the evenings too now…..

yes, it's hard to break that focus and get back into it again! Plus I just like to be in my jammies for long periods. πŸ™‚

The same here, but I am afraid an earlh apointment with a friends would not help me either. Afterwords mu mind stays full of the nice things said. I tend to see people late in afternoon or evening when I can. A shame since I cannot thing of much nicer things than a date with a friend for breakfast

Early morning at Michelberger is perfect! I like to be busy in the morning, it gives the day that kick ass feeling πŸ™‚

I also like an early morning coffee with a friend, and it gets the day off to a good start. However, I think I should plan MORE coffee dates in the day. Otherwise I just work, work, work πŸ™

When I have a "day date" I schedule it for immediately after lunch. That helps me to use up the morning a lot more effectively and to make just one break (for lunch, then out for coffee). But being a freelancer is not for everyone!

I know this may seem weird, but I am going to tell you about the habits of my neighbors, which also seem to work as freelancers. They live across the street, in Berlin Mitte, and I can always see them at their desk from early in the morning until late in the afternoon – that is because they work by the window and let all the daylight get inside. They always switch the lights off by 5 pm, move in some other room of the apartment and don't go back until next morning. I like to think of them as being writers πŸ™‚

it's so good to read this, i always thought "shame on me!" for being useless the rest of the day if i have an appointment in the middle of the day. good to see that you're feeling the same. πŸ™‚
