From the couch

September 10, 2010

I’m not feeling very well today, so I’m at home on the couch looking at the calendar that used to hang in Adolf’s house and think about love.

My first love was Mika, I was in love with him for four years from when I was 6 until 10 years old. When I was 8 my family moved to a new apartment, right above Mika’s family’s apartment. Our parents became friends and one day my dad invited Mika and his brother over to watch a film with me. I was so shy and didn’t say a word. The only sign I gave him was on a Friday when I was going to a disco and I snuck in a note through the hole in his door “Are you going to the disco tonight?” and he came up and said “No I’m not going to the disco tonight”. And that was it.

Tell me about your first love.

My first love was David, when I was nine.
We both had a "summer house" on the same block of apartments, both on the top floor, so I could see him from my terrace. I had a major crush on those green eyes, hahaha. One day a friend of my dad's, who was also our neighbour, teased me "you know, David told me he thinks you're cute" (he didn't) and I blushed. One day we were playing in our backyard and without a word I slammed him a little kiss and kept on playing. After summer he went back to England. I saw him a few years ago, he had no ideia who i was and i hardly recognized him 'cause he was no longer cute :p

My first love was my friend Peter. Our parents were friends before we were born, and our older sisters were best friends, so of course we were also best friends when we were little. Our sisters always told us that we were to get married so that we would all be related forever. When he started going to elementary school, he became too cool for me for several years, as I was home-schooled. We still see each other now and then, and he's still lovely, but it's never been the right time between us.

It was the 2nd grade and his name was Fred.
We would fill jars with sticks and leaves, punch
holes in the lids to make a home for captured
caterpillars. And write naughty words with
    chalk on the sidewalk.

    Innocent times. :^)

    Tea and sympathy Sandra.

I was 15 when I first loved a guy. No elementary or secondary school love for me. His name was Thomas and he was like living on another planet, it was fun. We have had a short story together, then it stopped, then he tattooed my name on his leg and we got back together, and then it stopped for good. Things happened just the way they should, and now I am still in love with this first love story.
    Happy week-end Sandra!

It's funny you should mention this because I just came across my first love on facebook last night after finding his wife and recognizing him in some photos. I had the most ridiculous crush on him from the age of 7 to 13. Now he's a dad, is balding, living in the same sad town we grew up in, a hunter, conservative, and everything opposite of me. But seeing his smile in the photos took me right straight back to being 10 years old.

I was 7 or 8. His name was Laurent. But he didn't see me : he loved Cécile who loved another one who didn't loved her !
Now, my lover is Laurent. Not the same Laurent.
    Ah, love stories !

It was in kindergarten, Germán had almond-shaped eyes like me. His hair was short but once I saw a really long and thin braid hidden from the lower back of his head, tucked into his shirt, that was really mysterious for me.

Of course I never said anything to him, but we went in a 'school trip' to the health center and boys and girls had to hold hands so nobody was lost. I was lucky I got to hold hands with him, I think that was it 🙂

    Get well!

My first love was Allan. I was 8 & he was 10. We were staying at the same campground & he gave me flowers & kissed me behind a tree.
He was the cousin of a friend of my brother (who teased me endlessly for the rest of the summer).

I don't think I was really in love until I fell in love with my husband when I was 17. But I remember my first crush: a boy named Ian I met at summer choir camp. I'll never forget feeling that way for the first time. Also, Sandra, I love that you were going to the disco when you were ten years old! It made me laugh. 🙂

My first love and I met in Latin class in high school. We dated for 8 years. Then he broke up with me over the phone(!) and less than a year later was engaged to another girl.

Daniel in Montessori / pre-Kindergarten. He had blue eyes with impossibly long black lashes, pale skin, jet black hair. He looked a bit like my first non-real crush, Speed Racer. We played once on the jungle gym, just us – it was the best day of my 4 year old life.

    Hope you feel better soon!

I hope you feel better soon, Sandra. I love your colorful socks, a nice cheerful thing when you aren't feeling to grand.

My very first love was named Lisa. We met in school when we were 7. She lived a few streets away from me and we became best friends. I spent my whole childhood in love with her. I always wished I had told her, but when we were 12 her parents divorced and she moved away. I didn't see her again till I was in my 20's and I was married. It was nice to see her again and be able to introduce her to my husband. She grew up to be a very pretty sweet lady.

I'm really lucky, but my first real love is actually Ryan – the man I am with now (and, I hope, forever)… we have such a soppy love story, as we met online through our etsy shops, living in different countries, but it all worked out perfectly in the end… hehe…

Everything else was just crushes 😉

My first big crush was a boy in highschool – the 'cool' boy… I remember falling out of the doorway of the local shop where we all bought lunch, falling FLAT on my face at his feet and wanting to *die* when he and all his friends just laughed!!

I like love better than crush 😉

Hope you feel better soon Sandra. Being sick is no fun 🙁 xo

I have had lost track of you, keep seeing the same post in my blog roll, and today I thought, well this is not right, and found your new blog!

Hope you're feeling better already… have a nice weekend!

I was 11. His name was Dumitru. He was one year older than me, funny and calm. Reminded me of my dad I think. He's a priest now.
    Get well.

My mother was a teacher and I felt crazy in love with a boy form her class (I went in a an other school). We both were 5 years old. Every evenning I had a secret look in my mother's workbag, just to see this boy's exercise book. I remember I could stay admirative reading his writing and always wished my mother marked him good. I met him many times at friends birthday's parties, my birthays too ; I liked so much when I was sick but not enough, and went at work with my Mum. Time passing we became friends. Then, when we turned 12, we went in the same secondary school. I was always in love and was so happy to meet him everyday. One day he broke a teeth playing basketball and stayed a long time in hospital, I was really sad and worry and decided to write him and confess how strong I was in love with him. When he came back to school he started to ignore me and I collapsed into tears. A couple of weeks later I asked him if he had my letter, and, in answer to my question he violently pushed me saying "go away". I discovered suddenly how stupid he was. I felt sad for long days after, but was finally free to fall in love with an other boy…

When I was in nursery school (so I must have been about 4 or 5) I was in love with Myron. He would make me foxglove flowers out of stickle bricks and I was certain I was going to marry him.

My first love is still around. I have known him for ten years now. We have grown into adults together. He makes me feel electric and alive, but I have never let him know. Other loves have come and gone, but this first one is still so strong and special. That is why I keep it a secret – so that I can have it forever, just like this.
The feeling that everyone is describing – sweet and powerful – I don't want it to go away. -M

My first love was when I was 18, highschool in Chile. He was a Finnish guy named Jussi, tall, blonde hair and blue eyes, smart and shy. He was good in math, science which I was so bad at! We used to take school bus together and I slowly moved my seat so that one day I sat next to him! We had a mutual 'bitch' friend who invited us to a party so we decided to go there together. When we got there, she ditched us and we couldn't find her. So we walked home and he told me that he didn't want to go home soon since we both had permission to stay out. Our homes were close to each other and in the middle was a small park. We sat in the bench talking for hours freezing and I remember how bright the moon was. At one moment, I leaned my head on his shoulder and he had his arm around me. We didn't hold hands or kiss or say much but that moment was the perfect moment for me. Soon after, we got together. I still remember how he made me feel, as if the whole entire world revolved around him, and whenever I saw him, I couldn't see anything but him. We used to just lie down together for hours just gazing into each others eyes and feeling so connected to one another…*sigh…I really miss that feeling…

aside from that, you know all about my Swedish crushes! 😉 *shhhhh it's a secret!
